making the workplace a better place

It’s Time to Get Ready For ISO 45001!

Are you interested in pursuing ISO 45001? While a final version of the International Organization Standard for Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems has not been published yet, it will. In fact, it is due for release this year and specifies requirements for an effective management system framework to improve safety; reduce workplace risks; and create better, safer working conditions for ALL organizations.

ISO 45001 is intended for use by any organization, regardless of its size or the nature of work. It can be integrated into other health and safety programs or management systems, including worksite wellness. The system can be simple to as complex as needed, but any organization will benefit by implementing the standard or just following the framework. Actually, based on reading the draft and listening to webinars, those involved mention that ISO 45001 will improve all business operations.

ISO Standards are recognized around the world and bring together international expertise. ISO 45001, like all ISOs, is intended to bring action and not just checking a box. Like any management system, an effective system includes:

  • Integration in all aspects of the business
  • Leadership involvement, support, and yes, leading the charge
  • Communication
  • Continual improvement & learning
  • Employee and management participation and involvement
  • Accountability

It’s never too early to begin planning and assessing your organization for gaps. Not only are you getting ready, but your organization will also reap the benefits of doing so regardless of where you are in the process. Whether you’re interested right now or not, it’s never too early to learn more.
