What are your thoughts on this?
A recent article discussed the traps to avoid as you ‘gain power’ as a leader. It caused a pause since maybe power IS the trap to avoid as someone becomes a leader. Or perhaps it is a trick statement? But that does not seem to be the case.
The 5 traps listed could perhaps be reduced or eliminated IF instead of power, leadership is defined and developed to influence and inspire. (10 Surprising Things Successful Leaders Do Differently)
As John Quincy Adams quoted:
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
Whether you are in a management position, a safety or wellness manager, or an aspiring leader, it is a topic worth consideration and certainly worth a discussion on the lens to promote and develop leaders: power versus inspiring versus influencing.
