The main message this year is to raise awareness of the health risks of plastics, with a goal to phase out the use of single-use plastics.
How is your organization celebrating? Little changes matter all year long!
- Enlist your Wellness and Safety Teams for ideas and project assistance.
- Reduce and reuse.
- Reduce your value-chain emissions.
- Measure and analyze greenhouse gas emissions.
- Ditch disposable water bottles at your organization and install refillable water bottle stations.
- Switch to a Reverse Osmosis filtering system if you are concerned about your current drinking water. Can the organization provide a small ‘grant’ to purchase these? FYI: these systems are the only ones that filter out microplastics in our drinking water.
- Promote the use of bar shampoos and conditioners, and changing to laundry sheets rather than plastic containers.
- Stop using plastic bags. Distribute reusable bags made from recycled plastics to al employees!
- Encourage sustainable commuting and walking or riding a bike for short trips instead of driving.
- Get involved in ensuring bike lanes and sidewalks in your community.
- Go meatless at least one day a week – at work and home. Did you know that raising livestock on massive feedlots generates a colossal amount of green gas emissions – more than all the transportation emissions combined? Cutting back the amount of meat consumed will shrink an individual’s dietary carbon impact.
