Quiet Quitting Continues

According to a recent SHRM article, approximately 27 percent of U.S. workers quit their jobs in 2023, costing employers millions of dollars to replace them.  And turnover is expected to climb. (The Great Reshuffle). In fact, according to an HBR blog, 85% of employees – EIGHTY FIVE PERCENT – are contemplating changing jobs in 2024.

The reasons?

  • Lack of Work/Life Balance
  • Limited Career Opportunities
  • Personal Health/Family Issues

What can prevent or detour this loss of talent?

  • Ensure that employees are learning and have growth opportunities (career well-being)
  • Foster a sense of belonging and that every contribution is appreciated (meaning and belonging)
  • Cultivate camaraderie (social well-being)
  • Recognize and acknowledge employee efforts (spiritual well-being)
  • Consider flexible options and ensure employee autonomy
  • Assess benefits, provide choice options for employees, and promote benefits the provided.
  • Develop leadership skills for managers such as active listening, positive communications, personal connections and inspiring team members

Cultivating workplace social well-being encompasses the above considerations. As mentioned in an upcoming blog, talent acquisition (essentially knowledge and skills) and retention through organizational well-being (civility, flexibility, meaningful work), and a safe work environment (physical and psychological safety) are what create a sustainable organization.
