First Aid and CPR Training is a Well Worth Investment!

The return on investment (ROI) for a company implementing a medical first aid response team is generally very high and favorable. Most studies indicate a 4:1 and as high as an 8:1 return – meaning the minimum ROI is at least $4 for each $1 invested. HOWEVER, the Value on Investment (VOI) is the greatest outcome!

Immediate and appropriate first aid treatment can mean the difference between life and death. Left untreated until the ambulance arrives, the injured or ill employee’s condition may worsen and may become far more debilitating, leading to greater pain and longer disability.

We can attest to the value of developing a Team! We hear lifesaving stories from clients, employees, and the volunteer team members!  Truly the value is far beyond $$$ alone! Only placing a dollar value on developing a First Aid Response Team limits the true value on investment.

Yes, the direct costs associated with a workplace injury or illness can be extremely costly. Often a First Aid Response Team can reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and prevent a minor injury from becoming more serious. Even avoiding a few ER visits annually saves $1,000s.

However, the indirect costs are much higher than the direct costs, often four to ten times greater than direct costs and represent the most significant source of ROI/VOI.

A First Aid Team will minimize Lost Productivity and Downtime:

  • As mentioned, quick on-site care can reduce the severity of an injury. The care can lead to a faster return to work or avoid lost workdays entirely.
  • The ‘Bystander Effect”: Productivity and downtime also result when co-workers are concerned and unable to focus on work tasks.
  • An actual INCREASE in productivity: The decisiveness and sense of camaraderie needed when responding to medical emergencies often carries over into daily business operations, improving general problem-solving and work team performance.

Recent studies quantify just how much “feeling safe” impacts employees’ daily performance.

  • Psychological Safety Net: Research from 2025 indicates that 70% of employees report higher job confidence when they know their colleagues are trained to handle emergencies. This “mutual protection” reduces background anxiety, particularly in higher-risk environments like manufacturing, lab work, or logistics.
  • The “Value” Signal: 2026 workforce surveys show that 76% of employees believe safety training is a primary indicator of company culture. When a company invests in life-saving skills, it communicates: “We value your life more than just your output.”
  • Engagement Boost: Companies that implement regular, interactive safety training see an average 20% to 30% increase in overall employee engagement scores. This is often because CPR/First Aid training is one of the few professional development tools that employees find equally valuable in their personal lives (e.g., at home with family).
  • Boost to employee morale and company image: Your investment in a first aid response team acts as a “silent ambassador” for your brand, impacting how you are viewed by three key groups:
    • Current employees,
    • Prospective talent,
    • Customers and Client
StakeholderPositive Reflection / Value Add
Current EmployeesIncreases retention by up to 32%, as workers are less likely to leave an employer that proactively protects them.
Prospective Talent86% of Millennials and Gen Z candidates prioritize “Culture of Care” markers. A dedicated first aid team is a powerful recruiting tool.
Customers & ClientsDemonstrating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) via safety preparedness builds trust. Clients are more likely to sign long-term contracts with vendors who have low EMR (Experience Modification Rates) and stable workforces.

Key Stat (2025): Organizations that transition from “basic compliance” to a “proactive safety culture” report a 43% reduction in workplace accidents overall, simply because employees become more mindful of risks in their environment.

Adding a First Aid and CPR response team to your safety and health program is a strategic move that transforms your workplace from a “compliance only-focused” environment to a “culture-focused” one.

Certified training is the foundation, but investing in Team development to ensure an effective response is the essential ingredient for success. Through practice and review, the skills are honed and improved, and confidence is built. We have learned many examples when a company offered onsite training but when a medical emergency occurred, no one was sure exactly what to do and lacked the confidence to use a lifesaving AED.

The most significant benefit is not only that your team is ready to respond when the unthinkable occurs, but the camaraderie that is created during the sessions. This value leads to sharing experiences, learning from each other, and trust in fellow team members when working together to respond to emergency situations.

Feel free to contact Dimensions to discuss how to best develop your response team. We are always happy to share ideas and best practices for you to consider and implement.
